Portrait of Aeron Greyjoy

Aeron Greyjoy (The Damphair)

Born
271 AC
Titles
  • Priest of the Drowned God
  • Captain of the Golden Storm

The youngest of the surviving sons of Quellon Greyjoy by Lady Sunderly. In his youth he was a drunkard and a fool and the captain of the Golden Storm, until he was lost overboard during the Greyjoy Rebellion and washed up alive on the shore at Pebbleton. He took it for a sign, swore off wine, and entered the service of the Drowned God as one of his priests; his hair grew long and was never combed dry again, and the smallfolk took to calling him the Damphair. His acolytes, the drowned men, walk the Iron Islands beneath the salt-stained robes he taught them to wear.

He is haunted still by his older brothers: by Urrigon, dead of a wound taken in a finger dance the two of them had been playing together as boys, and by Euron, of whom Aeron will not speak at all. When Balon died and the kingsmoot was called to choose a new king of the Isles, it was Aeron who walked the islands with his skin of seawater and summoned the captains and lords to Old Wyk.
